The Pentecostal Protestant church assembly in Paarl was founded in 1958. Services were held in different houses. In later years the assembly grew so much that they could afford to call a leader and hire a hall in town.
In 1960 Past Heyneke was the first Pastor of the assembly in Paarl. He was also the man who had the vision to buy the current buildings in Rose Street. In years to come there were several other Pastors in the assembly until 1993 when Pastor Henry and Denmarié Young came to Paarl.
Under their leadership, the assembly restored the old church buildings, renovated the hall, built extra storerooms and offices, tarred the parking area, etc. In 2005 the wall between the hall and the church had to be broken out to make more space for the growing numbers of members and visitors.
The assembly was renamed Light and Life Centre according to Psalm 36:10 . It is a multi-rational Pentecostal church and services are mainly held in Afrikaans, but occasionally also in English.
Pastor Henry Young was born in Oudsthoorn, grew up in Parow, Cape Town and was throughout his young life active in the youth ministry of the assemblies where his parents were members. He met his wife, Denmarié, who grew up in Paarl, through the church youth activities and they were married in 1975.
Three sons were born between 1978 and 1988 and a little grand daughter was born in 2007. Pastor Henry and Denmarié Young was called to the full time ministry in 1979. After they prepared themselves in study, they were called to their first assembly - the Pentecostal Protestant Church in Brits in January 1983. After two and a half years it was time to move on and they went to the P.P.C assembly in Robertsham, Johannesburg, where they served for 8 years. In 1993 the Lord sent them back to the Cape and they accepted the call to Paarl assembly.
The Vision of the Light and Life Centre is Restoration and Education. There is a Bible School with 80 students, a strong Youth ministry under the leadership of Pastor Young’s son, Rudi and Lee-Ann Young, an anointed Music team, Sunday School, Welfare outreaches and much more. The assembly started in 2007 with the G-12 cell concept and strive to get everyone occupied in disciple-making and growing the church for God’s Kingdom.
